Two Colorado Springs Police Department officers were injured after a high-speed car chase on the evening of July 10th.
According to the CSPD, police received a report of an attempted carjacking in northeast Colorado Springs. Soon after that initial carjacking attempt, a second carjacking report brought police to the Citadel Mall, where a crime victim informed the officers that his black Toyota 4Runner had been stolen from him by a man with a gun.
Minutes later, police noticed the stolen Toyota heading south on Academy Boulevard and started following the suspect. At the intersection of Airport Road and Academy Blvd., police attempted a successful TVI (tactical vehicle intervention) that forced the criminal to stop the vehicle. TVI maneuvers are often used by police departments to end car chases, and typically involve a police vehicle ramming the back end of the evading vehicle, in order to cause the suspect to lose control of their vehicle.
The CSPD reported that two officers suffered minor injuries during the intervention but that they did not require hospitalization. The suspect did not receive any injuries, is in police custody, and will face multiple felony charges.
Because of the dangers inherent in high speed chases, pursuit is not always an approach taken in these types of situations, but according to the CSPD, this suspect was deemed an imminent danger to the general public.

Typically, there are four different types of damages that can be sought in a motor vehicle accident claim:
- Punitive damages – Punitive damages are usually awarded when the conduct of the driver responsible for the crash and the subsequent results, was so irresponsible that it’s deemed important to punish that behavior, and deter similar behavior in the future.
- Pain and suffering – Pain and suffering refers to the physical and emotional stress that stems from an injury. This can include permanent loss of ability to perform some physical tasks and other medical conditions, but also emotional and mental conditions, such as depression, that can also stem from an injury.
- Medical costs – Medical costs of course refer to medical bills and other expenses tied to treatment and recovery. One important thing to note is that, in some circumstances, medical costs can extend over the remainder of the lifetime of the injured party. When the injury is bad enough, it can require very expensive treatments for the foreseeable future. It’s important that a personal injury claim take this into consideration when determining how much compensation is appropriate for a particular case.
